5 Tips on How to Recognize Signs of Aging Skin
As we age, we can see different signs of aging skin. Though you cannot bring back time, there are different ways on how to look younger. It is possible to have beautiful and youthful appearance by performing an effective skincare regimen. Naturally, the body experiences the internal aging process that begins in the mid-twenties. However, signs of aging skin do not become visible after some decades. When we reach this certain age, the production of collagen tends to slow down and elastin elements lose elasticity. It is more difficult for dead skin to shed and the levels of cell production is decreased as we age. Genes can also play an important role in the process of aging. Here are the visible signs of old age:
1. You can see the signs of aging skin when age spots, lines and wrinkles appear in your face. Due to old age, elastin and collagen decreases that result to wrinkles and loss of moisture. Subcutaneous layer's fat also starts to disappear, resulting the epidermis to sag. However, elder people are not the only ones that are prone to wrinkles. Some young people may have wrinkles around the eyes due to over exposure in the sun, preventing aging skin requires less exposure to radiation. To prevent having premature wrinkles, it is necessary to have skincare regimen at a young age.
2. One of the signs of aging skin is when it becomes transparent, rougher and thinner. As the level of fats decrease, the cheeks, chin, nose, temples and eye sockets tend to appear hollow. The neck and the hands lose firmness. It also becomes fragile and easily damaged because of the decrease in the blood vessel support.
3. Other signs of aging skin include the feeling of dryness and itching due to lack of moisture. Dryness usually happens in the elbows, lower legs and forearms. These areas become scaly and rough, usually go along with intense and distressing itchiness. Too much heating in the winter months as well as air conditioning may cause dryness and itching in the summer, preventing aging skin takes a bit of effort and regulating the heater during winter is a sacrifice we must make. As we age, we lose oil glands and sweat. Too much antiperspirants, soaps, hot baths and perfumes may also cause dryness. Sun exposure, smoking, stress and dehydration can also trigger dry skin.
4. Appearance of varicose, facial veins and spider veins are also signs of aging skin. Facial veins are commonly found on the nose, cheeks, forehead, neck, upper chest and eyelids. Facial veins are more common for fair-skinned women, which oftentimes appear during old age. As the elastic fibers in the blood vessel walls become weak, blood vessel dilation happens. Over exposure to the sun usually caused visible veins, preventing aging skin has a lot to do with avoiding exposure to the sun for extended periods of time that can cause decay and vein formation. Steroid use, genetics, liver disease and normal aging are factors that cause facial veins.
5. Signs of aging skin also include discoloration and pigmentation. Old age can cause discoloration. Heredity is also a factor in pigmentation such as age spots and freckles. Pigmentation may be increased by sunlight.
Preventing aging skin requires lifestyle change. It is necessary to use sunscreen to prevent damage from the sun. Avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol to maintain good health. Proper diet and exercise helps you to look and feel younger.
