10 Dermatologist Suggested Skin Care Tips!
Winter reminds us of cozy fireplaces, steaming coffee and rosy cheeks. However, winter can also bring severe skin dryness and flakiness leading to cracking, irritation, and eczema.
Leading dermatologist, David Hoffman says,” The moment you turn on your indoor heating system, the drying process of the skin begins. This is because lowering indoor humidity causes your skin to lose moisture leading to skin feeling dry and itchy. Therefore it is very important that you modify your skin care routine to suit the changing temperatures and seasons.”
It is very important for people to follow different skin care routines for different seasons. Your skin has different requirements in summer, winter, spring and fall.
Here are 10 tips that will help relieve skin dryness during the cooler months of the year.
Lather your skin with Moisturizers
Apply non-irritating and hypoallergenic moisture that nourishe the skin but doesn’t disturb its normal pH balance. Clayton Shagal Elasthy Gel moisturizes the skin from within and stimulates the elastin fibers. Because it is able to penetrate within the dermis layer of the skin, it combines with collagen and hydrates the skin naturally.
Avoid hot showers
A hot shower on a cold day might feel heavenly. As tempting may that be, be aware that intense heat can break down the lipid barriers of the skin and result in severe moisture loss. Bathe with lukewarm water instead and apply ample amounts of moisturizer.
Do not use heavily fragranced soaps
Fragrances generally have anti-oxidative properties that tend to remove moisture from the skin leaving it high and dry. Therefore use fragrance free skin care products that are non- detergent and have neutral pH in order to cleanse your skin.
Use a Humidifier
Dry air leads to dry skin leaving you dry and itchy. A good way to counter this problem is to place a humidifier in your room and prevent your skin from drying.
Wear natural fabrics
Make sure you wear natural fabrics in winter. Natural fabrics allow the skin to breathe and the skin’s natural moisturization process to take place. Synthetic products tend to suffocate the skin which eventually leads to signs of excessive dryness.
Restrain from using fragranced detergents and fabric softeners
Fragranced detergents and fabric softeners may make your clothes smell good and feel soft and smooth. However, when contacting your skin these same ingredients may cause irritation, dryness and other skin problems.
Keep your skin hydrated
Drinking lots and lots of water throughout the day is not just a summer ritual. It does good even in the winter months. Hydrating your skin from within will create a radiant glowing and healthy complexion.
Wrap yourself up
Don’t keep your skin exposed to the chilly weather outside. Keep your self wrapped up and protected from the harsh temperature.
Protect your hands
Your hands are at the highest risk of showing dryness. Wear gloves to keep them protected against the cold.
Go for medical treatment
If there happens to be any severe skin damage due to exposure to the cold, go to your physician and to seek appropriate treatment.
